Our work
Relationships
As a state integrated school, Wellington Hills Christian School receives government funding for staffing and operations.
The land and buildings are owned by Peniel Charitable Trust, while the New Zealand Christian Proprietors Trust (NZCPT) collects attendance dues to meet maintenance and building programme costs and to support the supervision and nurturing of the school’s Christian special character.
The NZ Christian Proprietors Trust (NZCPT) partners with local communities throughout New Zealand to expand the provision of quality state-integrated Christian schooling.
Peniel Charitable Trust works closely with a network of Christian education organisations to strengthen and support Christian schooling in New Zealand. In addition to our partnership with the New Zealand Christian Proprietors Trust (NZCPT), we are associated with the Christian School Trust, proprietor of four schools in Canterbury; the Christian Education Trust, proprietor of three North Island schools; and KingsWay Trust who advance Christian Education in Auckland. Through these relationships, we collaborate to share resources, expertise, and best practices to ensure Christian schools thrive and deliver high-quality, faith-based education.
Why we have development donations:
At Wellington Hills Christian College, we are committed to growing our school to full secondary levels. The costs associated with this expansion—purchasing and upgrading property, strengthening buildings, and fitting them out for classrooms—run into the millions of dollars.
While we always hope for generous benefactors to contribute, the reality is that we need a reliable income stream to fund this growth. This is why we have a mix of attendance dues and development donations.
The New Zealand Christian Proprietor Trust (NZCPT), our school’s proprietor, requires mandatory attendance dues. These dues cover essential operational costs. Development donations, on the other hand, are voluntary contributions sent to Peniel Trust and are specifically allocated to school development and growth projects.
Ideally, attendance dues could fully cover expansion costs, but Ministry of Education regulations limit how high these dues can be set. Development donations therefore play a critical role in bridging the gap, allowing us to raise funds and finance the growth of the school.
Why these funds matter.
Your support goes directly into the heart of school life — helping with buildings, maintenance, and the spaces where students learn, grow, and gather. These funds ensure that our schools are safe, well-resourced, and able to keep their focus on nurturing both faith and education.
How the funds are used
Development donations are used to:
Purchase and upgrade school property
Strengthen and refurbish buildings
Fit out classrooms and facilities for secondary education
Development donations and benefactor contributions are critical to expanding Wellington Hills Christian College on its current site. They enable us to meet the growing demand for Christian education and support the wider expansion of Christian education across the Wellington region.
